John Bolton

John Bolton MA Cantab MICE is retired, with twenty years experience in civil engineering & construction management and twenty years as a lecturer in Civil Engineering History, at Edinburgh Napier University. John has a particular interest in fountains and pumps.

 

Ali Davey

Ali Davey MUBC has worked with Historic Scotland since 2006 and has a special interest in 19th Century architectural ironwork in Scotland and Ireland. She began her career with the organisation as a Research Fellow investigating architectural iron made and found in Scotland. She is currently part of the Traditional Skills and Materials Team in Historic Scotland. She has a Masters in Urban and Building Conservation from University College Dublin. Ali is interested in forged ironwork.

 

Andrew Laing

Andrew Laing ICME is a third generation bronze and ironfounder from Edinburgh with a lifelong interest in architectural ironwork. He established the Scottish Ironwork Foundation with David Mitchell in 2002 after receiving a Millenium Fellowship Award to develop the project. Past President of the Scottish branch to The Institute Of British Foundrymen and holder of Long service medal to the foundry industry. Past president of the Scottish Industrial Heritage Society.

 

Dr David Mitchell

Dr David Mitchell MSC IHBC ProfICME FSA Scot by day is Director of Conservation for Historic Scotland. Member of the Institute for Historic Building Conservation and the Institute of Cast Metal Engineers. Member of the English Heritage Advisory Board and CyArk, a US Non Profit to digitally document and share world heritage. Alumni of the US State Department Fellowship programme. Interested in ironwork conservation and the history of the industry in Scotland, particularly Walter Macfarlane and Co.

 

Robin Murdoch

Robin Murdoch FSA Scot is a former engineer (31 years) now freelance archaeologist and historian. Special interests industrial archaeology and identification/study of glass from all periods. Fellow of The Society of Antiquaries of Scotland since 1976, member of Edinburgh Archaeological Field Society since 1972 (chair for 18 years), member of Archaeology Scotland, member of Scottish Industrial History Society.

 

Gordon Urquhart

Gordon Urquhart BA MSc IHBC FSA Scot. is an architectural historian with a particular interest in Glasgow. Presently with Glasgow City Heritage Trust he is a prolific author. He has studied the Scottish iron founding industry for many years. He has run heritage grant schemes for the Glasgow City Heritage Trust and the Glasgow West Conservation Trust previously. Presently developing a technical conservation postgraduate course.
